Our team answers homeowner questions every weekend on WCCO 830 AM from 9:00 am-10:00 am.  Have your most pressing home improvement quandaries addressed by calling or texting 651-989-9226.  Here’s the must-know information our COO, Andy Lindus, shared on 7.17.21.

For homeowners looking to have a composite deck built, they’ll be hard-pressed to find a better material than TimberTech AZEK® due to its beauty, durability, and longevity.  In the Twin Cities, metal deck framing is gaining popularity.  Its black color gives off a modern and cohesive look compared to green treated deck frames. In addition, a metal deck frame will last longer than a green treated deck frame.  While deck frames can be reused between projects, it’s wise to price out having a new frame and substructure installed.  Many times when the old deck is removed, there are complications with how it was flashed and attached to a home.  It’s important for homeowners to understand that there are a variety of deck footings available.  Diamond piers are a popular option. They are diamond shaped block of concrete that has tubes going into it.  A jackhammer is used to drive pipes that are four feet long into the ground.  Diamond piers are much more stable than average deck footings.  An option that’s even more stable than diamond piers are helical piers.  Helical piers are a footing built on a drill bit.  An auger is used to spin the footings into the earth.  They work well close to home foundations and in wet soil types.

If a homeowner prefers to build a porch over a deck, it’s important to know that initially four-season porches are most expensive than three-season porches.  However, the cost to convert a three season porch to a four-season porch is greater than if a four-season porch had been built to begin with.

Window installation is another way to increase your home’s energy efficiency and curb appeal.  It’s important to note that a window’s interior and exterior colors do not need to match.  Custom paint can be available but may not have the same warranties that standard colors have.  Darker colors are becoming more popular and are now being offered by many manufacturers.  Homeowners wanting a woodgrain look without the maintenance will be pleased to know that Infinity® from Marvin offers the Everwood® Engineered Finish.  Although the material looks and stains like wood, it is comprised of Ultrex® fiberglass.  This material is resistant to mold and mildew.  For homeowners wanting to introduce natural light into spaces that would not otherwise receive it, sun tunnels and skylights are an appealing option.

Twin Cities Decking & Window Installation Reviews:

"It was a pleasant experience from the start of the sale, measuring and matching wood for the finish work and great communication from Kelsey in the office. Tony and Ryan installed a beautiful Marvin Infinity® sliding door and a new Marvin window. They worked efficiently and did a great job - the finish work on both is perfect.  They left our property neat as a pin.  We will use them for future work!  I called and spoke with Bob in the office to sign off on the job - he took his time in answering all of my questions.  They choose their staff well.  One of the best parts is when the city inspector told us they do beautiful work."

"Replacement and installation went very well. The workmanship was excellent and replacement of windows went in a timely manner. I did not lose hardly any heat at all as windows were replaced in February. The city inspector was also very impressed with Lindus Construction workmanship."

“Our interaction with Charlie has been excellent, and the interaction with the construction crews themselves was also very good.”
