Four Point Post Hailstorm Checklist

The sound of hail pelting on roofs, siding, and gutters has been all too familiar to homeowners living in the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin lately.  Though the damage takes only a few minutes to take place, the aftermath of hail is long-lasting and oftentimes stressful.  Understanding the proper steps once damage occurs is the first step towards storm damage restoration.  Follow our hail damage inspection checklist to understand the first four steps you should take.

1. Start a Storm Damage File

When beginning your initial hail damage inspection, record when the storm occurred and list all the areas that you are noticing damage.  Don’t overlook elements such as air conditioners, fences, and sheds.  It’s helpful to record the size of hail and photograph it next to an object that shows scale, such as a quarter.  During your hail damage inspection, using binoculars while standing on the ground can allow you to verify the extent of damage on your roof.  An abundance of shingle granules in your gutters or absent shingles are strong indicators that hail damage has occurred.

2. Triage Severely Damaged Areas

Hail damage on roofs can cause leaking; this should be addressed immediately by having a tarp installed over the problem areas as quickly as possible.  If hail shattered window glass, board up the damaged area until window replacement can take place.  The goal of your storm damage inspection should be to prevent any further damage to your home until a reputable contractor can assist you with restoration.

3. Have Your Property Inspected By A Trustworthy, Local Contractor

Local, highly rated contractors readily provide complimentary storm and hail damage inspections.  They are experienced and know exactly how to check roofs for hail damage, whereas an amateur could miss some of the signs.  If an insurance claim is needed, they can supply you with documentation and even work to meet with you and your insurance adjuster to finalize your claim.  Exercise extreme caution when interacting with storm chasing contractors that show up at your door uninvited.  Oftentimes, they are not insured or licensed.  In many instances, work is completed incorrectly, or not at all.  Refrain from signing their vague contracts and do not allow them to get on your roof, as you may be liable for their injuries in the event of an accident, especially if they lack insurance.

Here’s How A Reputable Contractor Can Help You After A Storm:

File A Hail Damage Insurance Claim

Prior to having work completed by the storm restoration companies you have interviewed, an insurance claim must be filed.  Having a reputable storm damage contractor support you during this process is particularly beneficial if the adjuster’s initial offer is not a reflection of all areas of your home that need restoration or fails to recognize premium improvements you have made to your home.  A homeowner has the right to retain the services of an independent adjuster that can submit their analysis to your insurance company with the amount you deserve compensation for.  As a last resort, a homeowner may hire an attorney or file a dispute with the state insurance commissioner’s office.

Reviews Of Our Storm Damage Repair Company:

"Jake Calleja came out and he actually listened to what we wanted and then designed the best solution for our home. Although it came to a bit more than the insurance was paying, we were confident based on prior experience that we would get the best possible. We DID. They even fixed things that previous exterior contractors had messed-up. We couldn't be happier."

"I just had my new roof completed yesterday. I will be having new gutters installed next week. From start to finish, Kevin McKeague has been like my personal hero. He went above and beyond to battle with my insurance company to get them to pay up, when they originally were intending to give me hardly a dime. He's been thorough, professional, patient and supportive through the whole process. I can't recommend him enough to be your go to person at Lindus Construction. Lindus Construction as a company also has done an amazing job. Thank you Kevin for all your help!"

"I had Lindus Construction come to do an inspection after a storm in our area. Grayson arrived on time. He did a thorough inspection and provided a nice video of the entire inspection. He finished the inspection and told us our roof was great and there was no problem. What I loved was that he didn’t try to sell me anything beyond what was expected in the visit.  Thank you for the great experience! I would definitely recommend Lindus Construction and specifically Grayson to my friends and family!"

"The roofing and gutters look great!  Your crews did a fantastic job and were very patient, listening to all my concerns.  A special thank you to Lucas Trickle for his help.  We couldn't have completed this project without him. His ability to get the insurance company to address all the damage and recover all costs was greatly appreciated.  Lucas is not only an asset to your company but also to your customers."

"Lindus recently completed re-roofing my house, garage, & shed due to damage from last year's hailstorm. The roofing & LeafGuard® Gutter crews both did efficient, excellent work. I was impressed with the detailed clean-up as well. The sales representative did a really fine job connecting with my insurance company, explaining to them all the special details and requirements for updating the roof on an older house, as well as the reasons why LeafGuard® Gutters are of higher quality than covers for standard gutters. Everyone I dealt with from the office staff to the workers and crew leaders was polite, professional, and answered all my questions effectively. I recommend Lindus Construction with no reservations!"
