Are the Noises in Your Home Warning You About Poor Air Sealing?

The drastic temperature shifts the Twin Cities area can experience can cause homes to make alarming noises. As the heat rises in a home and escapes, it will force air to move in numerous places. When cold air encounters warm objects, expansion and contraction happens.  Drafts can be felt coming down a home’s walls, often from a leaky ceiling or rim.  When this happens, the air that is escaping a home has to be up somewhere, often from the area of least resistance, namely a home’s attic.  This occurs when a home has a lack of attic air sealing.  Ramifications of subpar attic air sealing are loud noises, mold growth, and drafty windows.

Go Behind the Scenes on a Twin Cities Area Infinity® from Marvin Window Installation:

Conquer Energy Efficiency with Infinity® from Marvin Windows

When it comes to the energy efficiency of windows, the larger they are, the more failure points they can have.  This makes it imperative to opt for quality windows over builder grade, especially in styles like sliding windows which are prone to air infiltration.  For homeowners looking for windows that offer the ultimate peace of mind, the installation of Infinity® from Marvin windows are a wise choice.  Ordinary windows which are comprised of wood or vinyl frames, glass, and a metal spacer system.  All these components expand and contract at different rates.  However, Infinity® from Marvin windows are comprised of Ultrex® fiberglass and expand and contract at nearly the same rate, making window seal failure much less likely.  Infinity® from Marvin windows also have a coating on their glass that allows it to absorb more of the sun’s energy, giving solar heat gain in the winter, which is important in the climates of Wisconsin and Minnesota.  In the summer months, the sun is higher up in the horizon, it will help reflect the sun’s energy, keeping the home cooler.

Prior to having new house windows installed, it’s important to clarify whether the project will use insert windows or full frame window installation.  Without full frame window replacement, air and water infiltration cannot be addressed.  Insert windows are installed without replacing trim or extension jambs.

"The new window that was installed in the lower family room is beautiful.  Everything your team did with respect to the install of both windows and patio door has been exemplary.  I could not be happier with the results.  Your team members were respectful, professional, and fun to visit with.  The city inspector has already come and gone and signed off on both permits.  He found everything to be top-notch."

"I was very happy with the free insulation estimate I received from the Lindus rep. He took the time to walk me and my father-in-law through a thermal scan of all the leaky spots in my attic - and basement, bonus! - and was honest and forthright about the work they do and the best and most economical options available to us to improve ambient temperature control in these areas."
