Kent’s Stillwater, MN Roof Replacement Project
Every year since 1968, the Builders Association of the Twin Cities presents the Reggie Award SM as a recognition of excellence for design and construction for houses on the Parade of Homes SM. While Kent had not been the original owner of the home, this characteristic was appealing to him when he was searching for the perfect home to relocate to, after living in New York to be closer to friends and family. Highlights of the home included an open chef’s kitchen, custom woodwork, and a three season walk-out porch. However, within less than two years of moving in, Kent was noticing a roof leak and reached out to our team of experts for an estimate on a GAF roof system.

Making Plans for GAF Roofing Shingles to be Installed on Stillwater Home
Situated on a breathtaking five acre lakeshore lot, the curb appeal of Kent’s home was unmistakable. Frustratingly enough, the home’s roof was less than 15 years old and already warranted replacement. Kent was drawn to GAF roof shingles because of the 50-year, non-prorated warranty that covers both labor and materials. In addition, each roof installed by the craftsmen at Lindus Construction, is accompanied with a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty that stipulates if a product fails prematurely due to an installation error, Lindus Construction will correct the issue free of charge. While these are attractive warranties for any home, it was particularly important for Kent’s home, which had a roof that measured 57 squares. This size is nearly double that of a typical roof. The sizable square number also made it necessary that the shingles that Kent selected be aesthetically pleasing, as they would have a deep impact on the exterior charm of his home. In addition, the shingles needed to be a style and color that would be approved by his homeowners’ association.
Kent’s final selection was Glenwood® shingles by GAF. They’re designed to imitate the look of a cedar shake roof, but without the maintenance. Comprising three layers, the shingles offer the utmost in dimensionality, while far exceeding a cedar shake roof life expectancy. Offered in an array of colors, Kent opted for Dusky Gray. This rich brownish, black tone was a welcome change from the home’s previous terra cotta colored roof. With several trees near the roof, there was concern of it being overtaken by algae. However, this concern was alleviated through the installation of Glenwood® shingles, as they are impregnated with StainGuard® protection which is manufactured to prevent algae growth. Another advantage of the installation of GAF Glenwood® shingles is the potential for insurance savings. Not only do they carry a Class A fire rating from Underwriters Laboratories, but they also hold the highest possible impact resistance rating.
