Kathy & Mark’s Afton, MN Roof & Gutter Project
Afton, MN is a charismatic city located a mere twenty minutes of the busy city life of St. Paul. Residents and day trippers alike are spoiled with the city’s natural allure. When we were invited to Kathy & Mark’s Afton, MN home we were in awe of the property’s beauty. Not only was it home to mature trees, but the backyard had a spectacular view of the St. Croix River. While the roof of the eastern Minnesota home, hadn’t fully failed, there were signs, such as how faded the shingles had become, that replacement was needed. The open style gutters also proved to be problematic because they were prone to clogging with debris from the towering trees that adorned the yard. They became overburdened during substantial rainfall because they were undersized for the home.
Roofing: When suggesting a roof for Kathy & Mark’s home, there were several factors to consider. First, since the roof’s surface area is substantial, it was important to select a shingle that would be long-lasting. The shingle selection also needed to complement and not compete with the property’s lush trees and the hues of the river. Lastly, the roof needed to enhance the home’s curb appeal and ordinary shingles would detract from the home’s regal appearance.
With these factors taken into consideration, we felt strongly that GAF Glenwood Lifetime Designer Shingles were the best possible solution for Kathy & Mark’s home. One of GAF’s most recent innovations, this roofing line is designed to imitate the look and feel of cedar shakes. However, they hold several advantages over cedar shakes. They were able to customize downspout length and placement. The color Kathy & Mark selected was Clay, which played well with the brown hues on their new roof.
