Kathryn’s Insulation, Metal Roofing, LP® SmartSide®, & LeafGuard Brand® Gutter Project in St. Louis Park, MN
When Kathryn had moved into her historic home in St. Louis Park, she’d been attracted to its refreshed hardwood floors, new windows, and wood burning fireplace. However, two years later, she had come to the realization that upgrades to her siding, roofing, insulation, and gutters were needed to create a space that was lower maintenance, energy efficient and, aesthetically pleasing. Appreciating that Lindus Construction is a general contractor that could provide all the aforementioned services, she turned to our expert craftsmen for advice on materials and design. Here’s the story behind her final selections.
LP® SmartSide® Siding Installation
Simply put, attempting to repair or paint the home’s siding would have rendered less than desirable results due to how weathered it had become. Using the Hover rendering program, we were able to show Kathryn a series of 3D images that would allow her to see what various siding materials and color combinations would look like on her rambler. Ultimately, she opted for a midnight blue LP® SmartSide® prefinished in Diamond Kote®. Not only did this instantly enhance her home’s curb appeal, but the selection also offered peace of mind due to the 30-Year Diamond Kote® finish warranty. To increase the energy efficiency of Kathryn’s home, Insultex™ House Wrap® was used. Insultex™ has an energy efficiency rating of R-6 even though it is only five millimeters thick.
Metal Roofing & Insulation Installation
In the two years that she had owned her home, Kathryn had encountered numerous issues with ice dams and she found herself constantly raking snow off her roof in the winter. One particularly troublesome area was the bump-out area by her back kitchen. In that spot, we removed the roof, installed spray foam insulation, and then added metal roofing.
This roof insulation installation increased energy efficiency and alleviated the concern of ice dams. We brought the attic up to R-50 through attic air sealing and cellulose insulation. In Kathryn’s bathroom, a Panasonic Whisper fan was installed and vented outdoors through the assistance of a new vent. This provided a safe way for excess humidity to exit the home, alleviating the worry of attic mold.
Seamless LeafGuard® Gutter Installation
On both her house and garage, Kathryn opted to have us install LeafGuard® Brand Gutters. They are the only patented, one-piece gutter system that has earned the prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal of approval. Seamless gutters don’t have unsightly sections and joints which means homeowners like Kathryn won’t be dealing with leakage or seams collecting and holding debris.
In addition, should the LeafGuard® Gutters ever clog for any reason, it will be our technicians coming out to perform maintenance. Not only is this service complimentary, but it also transfers to the next owner of Kathryn’s home.
