Your Guide to Storm Damage Restoration

Lindus Construction’s COO, Andy Lindus, gives advice on what to do when your home has experienced storm damage.

Avoiding Storm Chasers

When screening storm restoration companies, it can be tempting to sign on with the contractor that promises the quickest turnaround time.  This tactic is often utilized by storm chasing contractors that have the intent to complete as many jobs as possible with little regard to quality workmanship and materials.

Oftentimes these shady operatives fail to pay suppliers and have even been known to disappear after getting a down payment from the homeowner.  While the homeowner can file a complaint with the state to get a contractor’s license taken away, it does not change the fact that they’re left with the task of interviewing new contractors to complete the storm damage restoration.

In addition, the burden falls on the homeowner to try and get the down payment back from the contractor, if they’re able to find them.  We highly recommend verifying a contractor’s reputation on watchdog websites such as the BBB, Facebook, Angie’s List.  Speaking with past customers and asking them the right questions help you understand if the contractor would be a good fit for your project.

An Opportunity to Update Your Home

Decking Upgrades

Homeowners that experience storm damage, often use that opportunity to evaluate all areas of their home to determine which upgrades they want to make.  Decking frequently makes this list and clients often ask for guidance on which maintenance-free decking material makes the most sense for their project.

Hands down, Zuri® Premium Decking by Royal®.  What sets this material apart from others is its ability to closely imitate the aesthetics of exotic woods.  Durability is another category where Zuri® outperforms the competition.

Replacing Damaged or Outdated Windows

Windows are another area of your home that often need to be replaced due to storm damage, however choosing the right replacement windows can seem like a daunting task. Different window products appear to be similar and descriptions are frequently full of hard to understand terms.  With a goal of installing products that are made for our climate and guaranteed to last a lifetime, we gravitate towards SeasonGuard and Infinity® from Marvin Replacement Windows.  Here’s what we like about each:

SeasonGuard: Exclusive to Lindus Construction, SeasonGuard vinyl windows come with triple pane glass and are lauded for their energy efficiency.  They’re built for the Minnesota temperature swings.  We interviewed 17 different manufacturers before choosing the one that would fabricate SeasonGuard windows.

Get a Behind the Scenes Look at the SeasonGuard Window Manufacturing Process:

Infinity® from Marvin Replacement Windows: Made with Ultrex® fiberglass, which is significantly more durable than builder grade vinyl windows.  The windows do a superior job of keeping your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.  Not only are they beautiful, but easy to operate.  They are expertly manufactured to exceed the industry standard window lifespan.

Twin Cities Storm Damage Repair Reviews:

"Hail damage required us to replace the metal roof on our house and detached storage building. Ryan, as foreman, was excellent. There is little doubt in my mind that Lindus' highest priority is to have the job done right and their customer to be fully satisfied, and we are. As a result, I would be happy to recommend to others!"

"They replaced our roof following hail damage last summer. Did a wonderful job! Replaced sheathing in an area around the fireplace chimney where we have had a leak for many years and nobody else has been able to find it. Also replaced our soffits with a continuous vent design which hopefully will lessen our ice dam problems in the future. Excellent workmanship all around!"
