Marea’s St. Paul MN Roofing, Gutter & Siding Project

It’s been nearly five years since Marea moved into her bungalow in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of St. Paul. The house, nearly 70 years old, had been offered at an attractive price because components of its exterior, namely the siding, roofing, and gutters were nearing the end of their lifespans. However, Marea had the foresight to know that partnering with a reputable contractor to update these items would not only enhance the property’s curb appeal, but also allow her to personalize the look of her home. Roof: When we inspected both the home and garage’s roof we informed Marea that the amount of time she had before they would start leaking was minimal. Wanting both roofs to be the last she ever installed on her home, she agreed that GAF roof shingles were the perfect solution. On both the house and the garage, Marea opted for shingles in the Weathered Wood color so the buildings would complement each other. The GAF Glenwood® shingles offered the ultimate peace of mind. They’re accompanied with a 50-year, non-prorated warranty that covers both labor and materials. Their dramatic shadow effect allows them to closely imitate the look of cedar shakes without the fire hazard or maintenance.

Siding: The home’s current siding was original and contained lead. This meant that our team had to utilize lead safe practices to minimize the amount to carefully collect and dispose of the contaminated siding. Once the siding had been removed, our craftsmen identified substantial opportunities to improve the home’s ventilation. This led to the installation of new soffit, fascia, return’s and sider’s edge. This combination of improvements will ensure that Marea’s home can do a better job distributing air evenly, which will prevent mold growth.

New LP® SmartSide® pre-finished in Diamond Kote® was installed on Marea’s home. This combination of materials offers the ultimate peace of mind because it’s accompanied with an industry-leading 30-year no fade warranty that also covers chipping and cracking. Another aspect about LP® SmartSide® that Marea appreciated was that it can be cut in longer lengths than James Hardie® which enhanced the home’s aesthetics. White shakes were installed on the side gable to add interest and create contrast.

The home’s windows, doors, and 6”x6” post by the home’s back door were wrapped in white aluminum to create a maintenance-free modern look.

Gutters: The final component of Marea’s maintenance-free exterior transformation was the installation of LeafGuard® Brand Gutters. Their one-piece, seamless design eliminates the concern of seams weakening and eventually leaking. Comprised of aluminum that’s 20% thicker than the industry standard, their durability is unmatched. They’ve also earned the prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal and are guaranteed never to clog or we clean them free of charge.
