Why Inspect Your Insulation Before Installing a New Roof

The architectural style of a story and a half home can make it tricky to insulate, making them prone to heat loss and ice dams. Below is an example of what this can look like.

At the peak and edge of the roof, there is noticeable amounts of snow. However, in the middle section of the roof, there’s a difference of about three inches of snow because there is not much space to add the amount of insulation needed.

In this scenario, one of the most cost effective insulation methods can be installing three inches of foam insulation down the entire slope and then installing a metal roof which will shed snow and prevent ice dam growth.

An optimum time to have your attic insulation professionally evaluated is when you are replacing your roof. This is because not all attic spaces are easily accessible with the roof intact.

Particularly in spaces with vaulted ceilings, contractors should be pulling up plywood to verify if the insulation has settled. At times, it simply needs to be densely packed again. In other instances, the roof deck should be removed, and spray foam insulation should be applied. If needed more can be added through the home’s fascia boards.

Choosing the Perfect Siding for Your Home
