A Word About Decking

As the premier Twin Cities deck builders, one of the biggest trends in decking we’re noticing is homeowners shifting their attention away from wooden decking and towards composite deck building.  The biggest reason for that shift is the minimal maintenance associated with composite deck designs.  Many times, even if a homeowner is having a wooden deck installed, the railing system is still metal, as wooden railings take a substantial amount of time to stain.  Tempered glass railings are also popular because they provide an unobstructed view.  While it can seem like a cost saving measure to reuse deck footings, they often need to be replaced due to rot or to bring the deck up to code.  Winter is a great time to plan the construction of a deck so that after spring thaw occurs, the deck installation can begin.

A Word About Roofing

One of the reasons it’s so important to work with a reputable roofing contractor is because once materials such as underlayment and ice water shield have had shingles applied over them, it can be tricky to discern whether or not application was completed correctly.  Even more concerning is the fact that if corners are cut, the result can be premature roof failure which may not be evident until well after the contractor is out of business.  Roofing must also be installed in conjunction with the manufacturer’s specifications in order to be eligible for a warranty claim. When it comes to residential metal roofing, beware of a contractor that suggests installing a new roof over an old one.  This approach adds unnecessary stress on your home and may not even be legal in your municipality.  Another disadvantage of this approach is that the roof deck cannot be inspected for rot if the previous roof is not removed.  Underlayment also cannot be replaced if a roof’s shingles are not removed prior to a new roof being installed.

"Had my roof (shingles, soffit, fascia, and gutters) replaced by Lindus two years ago and am very pleased with the quality of their work. When hail came through a year later I called and they came out and did an inspection to make sure everything was OK."

"Very pleased with Lindus' replacement of my rotting deck. It wasn't an easy project, but the work team was unfailingly professional and they were perfectionists about their work. I'm thrilled with my new composite deck, which likely will outlast me! It would hold a tank, and is a handsome addition to my backyard."

"We had Luke from Lindus come out to give us an estimate to demo our existing wood deck and replace it with a low-maintenance, composite deck. We were very impressed with his proposal and ordered one.  The deck turned out fantastic. We specified treated lumber framing and Azek® for the decking and trim. Color coordinated steel railings and integrated stair and post lighting complement the project. The crew couldn't have been better.  We are totally satisfied with the deck and with Lindus."
