Brown treated wooden decks are chemically treated to hold up against termites and decay. However, over time, the deck’s original color lightens, and steps must be taken to keep it looking its best. Power washing should also be done on a routine basis to ward off pollen, dust, dirt, and grime. To maximize a brown treated deck’s lifespan and keep it looking its best for as long as possible, a brightener should be brushed or sprayed on. This type of product will restore the brown treated wood back to its original color. Brown treated wooden decks also need to be sealed and it’s important to use a product that’s intended for this type of deck.
Cedar decks also require a significant amount of attention. Without chemical treatment, you’re relying on the wood’s own internal resistance in order to maintain longevity. It’s worth noting that wood will deteriorate over time and the rate at which it does is reflective of the weather conditions it is exposed to. Every few years, a cedar deck should be sanded and treated with a stain that will resist UV rays.
