WCCO Radio Booth StruXure Pergola at the Minnesota State Fair
The WCCO Radio booth at the Minnesota State Fair had a large outdoor seating area for fairgoers, but the space was completely exposed to the elements. Rows of benches gave visitors a place to sit, yet there was no overhead shade or protection from rain, making the area less comfortable and less usable when Minnesota weather changed.

WCCO wanted to make better use of that space without enclosing it or taking away from the open-air atmosphere of the fair. The goal was to create a gathering area where people could sit, listen to live broadcasts, and spend more time at the booth while having the flexibility to respond to sun and rain.
Lindus Construction designed and installed a custom StruXure Pergola X with Pivot 6 adjustable louvers, creating a weather-responsive outdoor space that could remain open when conditions were pleasant and provide coverage when needed. TimberTech® materials were also incorporated into the project to complete a polished, durable gathering space designed for the demands of the Minnesota State Fair.
Why StruXure Was the Right Solution
The StruXure Pergola X is a motorized pergola system with adjustable louvers that can open, rotate, or close to control sunlight, shade, and weather protection.
A fixed roof would have provided coverage, but it also would have changed the character of the space and limited the open-air experience fairgoers expect.
The StruXure Pergola X gave WCCO a more flexible option. Its motorized Pivot 6 louvers can be adjusted throughout the day, opening to bring in sunlight and airflow or closing to provide shade and protection from rain.
That adaptability allows the seating area to respond to changing Minnesota weather without sacrificing the visibility, openness, and atmosphere of the WCCO Radio booth.

Designed Around the Existing WCCO Radio Booth
The StruXure Pergola X installation had to work within the WCCO Radio booth’s existing footprint and infrastructure.
The custom pergola was designed to provide substantial coverage for the outdoor seating area while maintaining sightlines, pedestrian flow, and the booth’s connection to the surrounding State Fair activity. The clean lines and powder-coated aluminum construction give the space a finished architectural appearance without making the outdoor area feel enclosed.
TimberTech® materials were also incorporated into the project, complementing the StruXure system while providing durability for a highly visible, heavily used public space.

A Technical StruXure Pergola Installation With an Immovable Deadline
Installing the StruXure Pergola X at the WCCO Radio booth inside the Minnesota State Fairgrounds added layers of complexity that would not exist on a typical residential pergola project.
Lindus Construction’s craftsmen had to work within Minnesota State Fair regulations, site restrictions, limited access, existing conditions, and a fixed completion schedule. Because the structure had to be ready before opening day, the installation timeline could not slip.
The Pergola X system with Pivot 6 louvers required precise layout and assembly, electrical coordination, motorized component installation, and system testing. Each part of the pergola had to be installed, calibrated, and operational before fairgoers arrived.
Lindus Construction coordinated the work within those constraints to deliver a finished motorized pergola system ready for the demands of the Minnesota State Fair.

How the StruXure Pergola Adapts to Minnesota Weather
The StruXure Pergola X at the WCCO Radio booth gives the outdoor seating area the flexibility to respond to changing weather throughout the Minnesota State Fair.
Its motorized Pivot 6 louvers can open to bring natural light and airflow into the space, rotate to provide shade, or close to provide greater protection when rain moves in.
That flexibility transformed what had been a fully exposed seating area into a more comfortable, usable extension of the WCCO Radio booth without sacrificing the open-air experience of the fair.

StruXure Pergola Craftsmanship at the Minnesota State Fair
The completed StruXure Pergola X at the WCCO Radio booth brings together architectural design, motorized Pivot 6 louver technology, durable materials, and precise installation in one of the most visible locations at the Minnesota State Fair.
For Lindus Construction, the project also showcased how StruXure outdoor living systems and TimberTech® materials can be used beyond a traditional residential backyard. The finished space demonstrates how a custom motorized pergola can improve comfort, weather protection, and usability in a high-traffic public setting.
The result is a versatile outdoor gathering space designed for changing Minnesota weather while giving WCCO Radio a more comfortable place to connect with guests and fairgoers throughout the Great Minnesota Get-Together.
