Four Reasons Your Home Gutter System Is Sagging

A home’s gutter system is designed to channel water away from its foundation.  Without this, the gutter guards can cause wet basements.  However, when there is a dip in your house gutters, they are unable to function properly.  In addition, landscape erosion can occur when gutter toppers pull away from a home.  Below are the most common reasons gutter protection systems sag.  When these instances happen, it is often necessary to hire a reputable gutter contractor to address these gutter drainage system issues.

Seamless Gutters That Are Too Small

It’s critical that gutter leaf guards be large enough to filter water without it spilling over.  In addition, gutter protection systems that are undersized can collapse from the weight of rainwater in torrential downpours.  If you’re wondering if five-or six-inch house gutters are better, it’s worth knowing that six inch gutter replacement systems, such as LeafGuard® Gutters, have been certified to handle over32 inches of rain in an hour.  In addition, too small of downspouts on the gutter drainage system will prevent water from dispelling in a timely matter.  This can lead to water backing up into gutter protection systems causing them to sag.

A Clogged Gutter Installation

Clogged gutter systems can cause damage to a home’s landscaping, fascia, foundation, and roof.  In addition, plugged gutter leaf guards can prevent water from filtering out of the system.  Organic debris, such as leaves, branches, and pinecones can enter house gutters that do not have gutter toppers.  The added weight of these items, in addition to trapped water create excess weight that that house gutters were not designed to handle.  Eventually, this will lead to sagging and corrosion in the gutter leaf guards.

Warping Gutter Protection Systems

Gutter systems are exposed to Mother Nature 24/7. Gutter protection systems made from vinyl, steel, and aluminum are known to expand and contract as the year progresses.  This can lead to the home gutter system twisting and becoming deformed.  In the winter months, gutters on homes without adequate ventilation, insulation, and attic air sealing can fall victim to ice dams.  Ice dams are problematic on builder grade gutter leaf guards because they cause them to warp due to expansion and the weight of the ice.  To minimize the risk of a warping gutter installation, which can lead to sagging gutters homeowners should consider galvanized steel gutters or aluminum gutter systems that are manufactured with non-corrosive coating.

Gutter Systems Without Adequate Support

Gutter protection systems are attached to a home with hidden fasteners.  The fasteners are designed to allow the house gutters to withstand elements such as rain, snow, and organic debris.  One of the reasons homeowners shouldn’t conduct their own gutter replacement is that the installation of the hidden fasteners can be quite complicated.  That’s because if the fasteners are placed too far from each other the gutter drainage system will sag because of the uneven weight distribution.

"We had gutters installed by Lindus. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and the installer’s were good to work with. I wanted the LeafGuard® one-piece gutter because we have so many trees and thought they would work the best. We have only had them about a month, but with the little rain we have gotten, they seem to work well. I would recommend them for gutter installation."

"Lindus removed and installed new LeafGuard® rain gutters. The product is great. The workers took the old gutters with them and cleaned up 100% when they were done. I would recommend them to anyone."

"I appreciated: working with the Lindus rep, Logan, who moved the project along quickly for us; the delivery ahead of time so we could paint the downspouts to match the house color; and the installers who worked quickly and went the extra mile to paint screws to color match the downspouts. Very satisfied with all aspects of work."
