Must Know Facts About Storm Damage Restoration

This summer’s tornadoes and heavy windstorms have resulted in a widespread number of homes requiring substantial repairs.  In addition for the need of new roofing, siding, and gutters, many houses also demand structural attention.  In severe cases, structural engineers must be consulted in order to ensure that the storm damage restoration insurance claims take into account the full extent of the damage to the home.storm damage

It’s no secret that storm chasing contractors can likely promise to swiftly commence work.  However, the homeowners with the best end result are those that choose to work with craftsmen that were committed to piecing their home back together the correct way.  Storm chasing contractors, often from several states away, are notorious for creating more problems than they solve.  Many times, homeowner’s checks are cashed, and work is never fully completed.  Frequently, the ethics of storm chasing contractors are questionable. Beware of any contractor that offers a way for you to have your project completed without paying your insurance deductible, as this is insurance fraud.  Other times, issues such as dry rot and roof leaks manifest themselves a couple years after the work is finalized and the storm chaser is nowhere to be found.  Partnering with a local roofer that’s achieved Master Elite® status from the world’s largest roofing manufacturer, GAF, offers the ultimate peace of mind.  This distinction, achieved by only 2% of roofers, means that the roofer has been vetted and adheres to the highest possible standards.  Master Elite® roofers also can offer warranties that rookie roofers cannot.

Learn About the Elements of GAF’s 50 Year Roofing System:

Reputable Twin Cities roofing companies also understand the proper installation processes for shingles, underlayment, and ice and water shield that ensure a roof will reach its maximum lifespan in our extreme climate.  Simply put, roofers from southern states aren’t accustomed to safeguarding roofs against ice dams which can lead to costly, unnecessary repairs, down the road.

blow in insulation

When working with a contractor to have your roof replaced after a storm, it’s wise to get their opinion on the caliber of insulation within your home’s attic.  Many times, additional insulation, ventilation and attic air sealing are needed in order to make your home as energy efficient as possible.  Experienced insulation contractors also can identify vermiculite insulation that has a high probability of containing asbestos.  If the insulation is tested and found to have asbestos, it must be removed by an abatement company, which can add a substantial amount to your project. However, for the health of your family, it is imperative that the insulation containing asbestos be removed.  Due to the stack effect, many attics act as a giant air filter.  In the winter, air is pulled up through your house to your attic.  In homes with severe stack effect, frost formation can occur in the attic because the home’s warm air is meeting the attic’s cold surfaces.  The frost proves problematic when it melts, wetting the insulation and rendering it useless.  The stack effect works in reverse during the summer months when the attic’s air is pulled downward into the lower levels of your home. This means that the fumes released from insulation with asbestos are circulated throughout your home, severely compromising air quality.

Tour a Deck Recently Installed by Our Team:

The recent storms have left many homeowners with decks that are damaged beyond repair. When considering materials for a new deck, it’s important to understand that there is no such thing as a maintenance-free deck. Even composite materials will need the occasional power washing to keep them looking their best.  One popular low-maintenance option is Zuri®.  Manufactured to imitate the aesthetics of exotic wood, it wins high marks for its attractiveness and durability.  However, it does have a few minor drawbacks.  The expansion and contraction on this product is greater than most.  The installation process for Zuri® is strenuous and not something that should be attempted by amateurs.  TimberTech® AZEK is another well-known low-maintenance decking product. While it does experience some expansion and contraction, the amount is less than Zuri®.  It’s also easier to install and does have a longer lifespan.  However, Zuri® does outrank TimberTech® AZEK in the realm of appearance.

Storm Damage Restoration Reviews:

"Had Lindus re-shingle our roof this summer following a hail storm and while I don't know much about roofing I do know a lot about customer service and they were excellent. Easy to trust a company that is honest and dedicated to their work. I have also referred them to two neighbors who have also used them with equally satisfying results."

"A few years ago we had Lindus install LeafGuard® gutters. We were happy with the crew and product. After the hail storm last summer, we hired Lindus to replace our roof and gutters. As owners of a historic home, we chose the 50 year GAF shingles. Rick Lindus provided project management and worked diligently at all times to make sure we were completely satisfied - and we are!"

"Had my roof (shingles, soffit, fascia, and gutters) replaced by Lindus two years ago and am very pleased with the quality of their work. When hail came through a year later I called and they came out and did an inspection to make sure everything was OK."

After the hail storm our home needed a new roof and all new siding, window trim...the whole nine yards.  From the salesperson to the crew that was doing the work, all were all wonderful. Answered every question, got the work done on time ( and looks great) cleaned up after every day and when the job was done you would never know that they were there.  I would highly recommend Lindus Construction! We were very pleased with everyone involved with the company that worked with us.
