How to Shop for a Kitchen Table

For most families, the kitchen table serves as more than just a place to eat meals.  It’s can also be where homework is done, family game night is held and where bills are paid.  With that being said, the market for kitchen tables is as diverse as the families that congregate around them.  Here’s what you need to know about shopping for the perfect kitchen table.

Table Size: This is the first thing you should evaluate.  After all, newlyweds in their first home are going to have much different needs than a blended family of 7.kitchen table

Table Placement: The room your table is going into can also limit your choices.  Before falling in love with a table, make sure it can actually get through the doorway in the room you intend to place it in.  Once you’ve confirmed it will clear the room’s entrance, make sure that there is at least a 36 inch clearance between the table and the wall to allow its occupants to have easy maneuverability.

Table Stature: The biggest determinant of table height should be who the most frequent diners are at the table.  Shy away from a high top table if you’ve got small children, as the height poses an accident risk.

Table Shape: The most common table shapes are round, square and rectangular and either can be a great fit, depending on your scenario.  You’ll notice that a lot of restaurants and banquet halls utilize round tables.  That’s because they encourage a warm and open environment.  Round tables are also family friendly because they do not have sharp edges for children to injure themselves on.  They work well in confined spaces.  Square tables work well in square rooms and provide a modern touch.  Rectangular tables work well for large groups and oftentimes come with leaves that can be used to elongate them.table

Material: To encourage a feeling of unity throughout your home, it’s wise to select a table that mirrors the finishes and materials already being utilized in your home.  Do know that the darker the wood, the more formal the room will feel.  Glass topped tables offer a trendier vibe.  However, it can be tough to find a glass table that can be lengthened and where bills are paid.  With that being said, the market for kitchen tables is as diverse as the families that congregate around them.  Here’s what you need to know about shopping for the perfect kitchen table.

"We had Charlie and Scott handle our basement project and couldn't be more happy. They allowed us to choose options for what they would do for us while we took on some work ourselves. They both made sure the job and quality were exceptional."

"I signed another contract with Lindus Construction — this time to spray foam and fully seal my attic, followed by an additional top layer of insulation. This is not a simple job. My home has a very complex Unico high-velocity air conditioning system running throughout the attic, and Lindus still took it on without hesitation."
