It was 1979 when Kevin and Emily Lindus started Lindus Construction out of their Western Wisconsin home. The economy was shaky with gas prices climbing to nearly a dollar. Interest rates and inflation had skyrocketed to double digits. Kevin Lindus had been working as a sider for his brother’s company and was laid off. His next job was working for an electrician and once again he found himself being laid off over the winter. It was then that Lindus Construction was conceptualized.
The first three years proved to be a struggle, but as the economy began to recover, the company flourished.
“I found that honesty is the best policy and to treat the customers fairly.” -Kevin Lindus
Nowadays, Lindus Construction has approximately 140 employees. The company embraces technology, including infrared imaging to identify home air leaks and 3D imaging to show what building materials would look like on a customer’s home.
Construction code has also changed significantly over the past 40 years. Now it’s commonplace for ridge vents to be installed across the roof instead of just gable vents. Both serve the purpose of cooling the home’s attic. The building envelope of today’s homes is much tighter, which can create homes with a higher moisture content.
Many of the company’s first installation jobs were steel siding. Over 30 years later, there are homes in Western Wisconsin where this siding still exists. Over the years, Lindus Construction has expanded its home siding options to include LP® SmartSide®. The material is easy to install and can be cut with a skill saw. The same does not hold true for James Hardie siding. LP® SmartSide® provides the look of wood without the maintenance. The company offers an array of colors along with shakes to help homeowners create a custom look. It is also quieter than steel siding which can create popping noises as it expands and contracts.
