While wood windows are aesthetically pleasing, they are costly to replace. If they are damaged due to dry rot, weather conditions or lack of maintenance, the gaps that form will permit heat and cold transfer. Thomas and Mary Kay’s home in St. Louis Park had been built in the 1950’s. Over time, they had noticed their windows seemed to lessen in energy efficiency, their heating and cooling bills had crept up, and their overall condition had begun to deteriorate. Seeking a long-term solution, they started interviewing Twin Cities contractors to learn more about the best options for their historic property.
“Lindus was not the lowest bid we received; they were in the middle of the pack. Yet because of their excellent ratings on Angie’s List we selected them to do the project,” Thomas recalls.
In all, we completed full frame window replacement on 14 double hung and two bay windows and replaced interior and exterior window trim. After reviewing their options, Thomas and Mary Kay opted for Infinity from Marvin® windows to replace their home’s outdated wood windows. Here’s why this proved to be such a wise choice.
Energy Efficiency: Infinity® from Marvin Windows have an Ultrex® fiberglass frame which is 5000 times less thermally conducive than aluminum. In fact, it has insulation ratings like wood. These house windows are manufactured in Minnesota, specifically for the extreme temperature fluctuations that happen as the seasons rotate. Infinity® from Marvin windows will create substantial energy savings for Thomas & Kay. In addition, it will alleviate the concern of ice and condensation issues. Because the windows were custom-manufactured for the openings they were installed in, their fit is weather-tight.
Beauty: Thomas & Kay wanted their windows to contribute to their historic home’s charm and opted to utilize black on both the interior and exterior of their house windows. This created a bold, yet refined statement, as not all window manufacturers offer this as an option. Being able to customize their windows was a characteristic the couple appreciated.

Ease of Operation: Outdated double hung windows can be difficult to open and keep open. Realizing this, the team at Marvin windows took great care to create a double hung window that can be operated effortlessly. Cleaning is a breeze with the tilt-in sash that can be accessed without having to remove the window screen.
In all the project spanned four days and was completed by a crew of three craftsmen. Upon conclusion of the project, Thomas left us the following online review, “The workmen were enjoyable people to be around, they worked as a great team together and the project moved along rapidly, Chris, the supervisor and finish carpenter on the job, did flawless work. The icing on the cake was when their quality control person did an in-person final check a few weeks after completion. He literally spent two hours examining every square inch of the product and their work inside and outside. He found two small errors which will be addressed. It is doggone rare to find a company that takes this kind of pride in their work anymore, but Lindus definitely does. Would we recommend them? We already have. With pleasure.”
